Saving on Prescription Medicines

Although coupons offering free gift cards come in Target, Rite Aid & K-mart ads quite often, I don't usually even remember to save some of these because the only prescription we normally have filled is for a compounded medicine, which is only available at specific pharmacies. Unfortunately my kids have been sick this summer resulting in several trips to the pharmacy!

The first prescription I had filled cost $10, and I received a $10 Martin's Gift Card. Later I had this refilled at Rite Aid & received a $25 Gift Card (FYI my Wal-mart did NOT accept a competitor's coupon). I had another prescription filled at CVS, where my K-Mart $10 Gift Card Coupon was accepted. I also noted the NEW Short Pump Kroger compounds medicines. I paid $6 less than I have been paying each month and received a $25 Gift Card for transferring the prescription.

Of course I did not come out ahead on any of these transactions because who wants their kids to suffer? I also had co-pays for "sick" visits and paid a fortune for one prescription because there aren't any generic versions of this medicine. At least I got a chance to test out a few stores policies regarding prescription coupons. Plus, I was reminded of an all important lesson: NEVER THROW OUT COUPONS...EVEN FOR SOMETHING YOU THINK YOUR FAMILY WILL NOT NEED!
