Each Christmas Eve we host my husband's family's dinner. After stuffing ourselves, we read from Luke then open presents. This gives our stomach's just enough time to make room for cookies, pies and coffee. Some years I make Hot Spiced Cider as well. This is super easy and costs less than bottled cider. Pick up the apple juice for $1 to $1.50 per bottle by watching for a great sale. (I have some from Target I paid $.79 for.) Follow the recipe below:
Ingredients:
- 8 cups apple juice
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks (or 1 tsp cinnamon)
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp cloves
Place all ingredients in a pot. Place over low to medium heat. Stir until sugar and spices dissolve. Simmer on low for at least 30 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks, then ladle into mugs or punch cups. (Make plenty because this smells so good, nearly everyone will want a taste!)
