Frequently I find items that are marketed at outrageous prices when the homemade equivalent is simple to make and much less expensive. Occasionally I am shocked by how much a consumer might pay for something. For example: Yesterday I received a catalog in the mail. Included was a 5.8 ounce jar of "peppermint chips" for $4.99! Make your own using candy canes or starlight mints. Run through your mini-chopper or food processor. If you don't have either, put the mints in a zipper bag and crush with a meat mallet or rolling pin. This will only take a few minutes and your effort will save you over $4. (Which equals $11.03 per pound.)
