Removing UPCs

Stores are offering a variety of deals to get your hard-earned cash.  One type of offer is a Mail In Rebate.  Often these require a UPC (bar code) from the package.  If you have purchased such an item for a gift, you'll want to remove this tactfully to avoid a big, ugly hole in the box.  Follow these steps:

  1. Grab an X-Acto knife, box cutter or razor blade.
  2. Carefully score the package around the UPC, cutting through the paper and leaving the cardboard intact.
  3. Gently peel the UPC from the package.
  4. Cover the unsightly barren area with a Christmas sticker
  5. OR Scan the UPC then print.  Carefully trim printed UPC prior to gluing to package.  (NOTE:  do NOT do this if you think your recipient may try to return the item. It would be quite embarrassing to have mall security question his/her intentions.)
