Easter Egg Dye

For most families, Easter just wouldn't be complete without boiling some eggs and adding some color to them.  Skip those fancy kits and make your own dye.

Ingredients:
  • Food Coloring (liquid, paste, or gel, etc.)
  • White Vinegar
  • Boiling Water
Pour 1 - 2 cups of boiling water in to large mugs or bowls sturdy enough to hold boiling water.  Add 1 tsp. vinegar.  Add food coloring.  Stir (add more food coloring, if desired.)

Get Creative:
  • Write on eggs with a white (or other) crayon prior to dipping in coloring.
  • Mix colors to create different colors.  (Dye Yellow, Red and Blue eggs first, then mix colors to use the least amount of dye and vinegar.)
  • Fashion tools for dipping eggs out of a coat hanger (cut with wire cutters and shape with pliers), or use spoons.
  • Get out some small stickers to add more design.
  • Hold eggs, partially immersed in dye, then rotate to hold remaining part of egg in another color.
  • Dry eggs on paper towel lined plates.  Store in refrigerator until ready to eat.
