For most families, Easter just wouldn't be complete without boiling some eggs and adding some color to them. Skip those fancy kits and make your own dye.
Ingredients:
- Food Coloring (liquid, paste, or gel, etc.)
- White Vinegar
- Boiling Water
Pour 1 - 2 cups of boiling water in to large mugs or bowls sturdy enough to hold boiling water. Add 1 tsp. vinegar. Add food coloring. Stir (add more food coloring, if desired.)
Get Creative:
- Write on eggs with a white (or other) crayon prior to dipping in coloring.
- Mix colors to create different colors. (Dye Yellow, Red and Blue eggs first, then mix colors to use the least amount of dye and vinegar.)
- Fashion tools for dipping eggs out of a coat hanger (cut with wire cutters and shape with pliers), or use spoons.
- Get out some small stickers to add more design.
- Hold eggs, partially immersed in dye, then rotate to hold remaining part of egg in another color.
- Dry eggs on paper towel lined plates. Store in refrigerator until ready to eat.
