I suppose all good things must come to an end. The summer movies are now $1. Since 1997 my family has enjoyed FREE movies at our local Regal Cinema. I have to admit, our trips to the theatre have tapered off in recent years...after all, how many times should I want to sit in a noisy theatre full of daycare kids just to watch Clifford's Big Movie or Stewart Little ? Still, I am saddened by this loss of free entertainment. Of course $1 isn't much to pay, but it becomes $5 if we all go....$10 if we go two times and $20 if we try to catch four shows this year.
More than I'll miss the sticky floor, crying babies and the occasional inappropriate movie preview, I'll miss the memories. My younger kids "first" movie theatre shows were free ones. Often my sister and I would cart all six of our kids to a show when her children were in elementary school and they would come for a visit. Plus, I've lost count of the number of times friends met us to catch a movie, split a giant box of popcorn and share a few Skittles. Just thinking of these fond memories makes me realize Regal will get at least $5 from me this summer, after all we can't go cold turkey!
