Although I enjoy going to yard sales, I rarely have time to do so. Last weekend, I had a free morning, yet expected to find few sales because Monday was a holiday. Boy was I surprised! There were several nice sales and a bonus "Neighborhood Yard Sale". Is it really worth the time it takes to look over piles of used stuff thrown all over other peoples' yards? Judge for yourself!
Pampered Chef Casserole Dish $8 ($39.99 online)
(Tagged $10, she accepted my lower offer)
Under the Sink Soap Dispenser (new and in the package) $.50
(used to replace the one we installed last year, which recently broke...
we paid $20 for that one!)
Lamaz Spin and Explore $2.50
(similar item $35 online)
4 Infant Girl outfits $2 Total ($.50 each)
Water Hose Rack $1
(Sale priced at Lowe's $20, regular retail $30)
Coffee Table, Side Tables and Entertainment Center $40 Total
(Tagged $50, he accepted our lower offer. Additional $15 spent at Lowe's
for stain, brushes and steel wool. So $55 for 4 pieces of Solid Wood Furniture!)
Huge Lego Star Wars Ship $1
(missing a few pieces, but fun to add to our big box of Lego's)
Booster Seat $4
(Tagged $5, lower offer accepted. Original tags still on product,
including $19.99 sticker price.)
Music Stand $2
(I priced these last fall and they run $15+ new.)
2 Door Mats $1 Total
Cooler/Lunchbox $.50
Going to yard sales is a lot like going to the mall. It's hard to pass up a good deal, so I may end up with a few things I don't need, for example I picked up the following last week:
Tang Pitcher $.25
(reminded me of my grandmother)
Thanksgiving Cute Pilgrim Salt and Pepper Shakers and
Hideous 4-ct Turkey Decorations (he refused to break up the set) $1.50
Chinese Checkers $1
(Well behaved kids get a treat sometimes!)
Of course these frivolous items may be considered a waste of money, but the total came to only $2.75. This is nothing compared to the amount we saved on the furniture (which we have been shopping for.) We had a super yard sale day! Now if I can just find the time to go again this Saturday!
