Normally, I cut their hair, saving up nearly $800 per year (12 inexpensive haircuts, plus tips for each of our four children). Earlier this summer, my girls wanted to try a location a friend recommended where haircuts are $5 each! Since I really don't like cutting hair and the expense was relatively small, I decided we'd head to Empire Beauty School. Below are our findings:
- A haircut really is $5. (If you'd like to have your hair styled, that will cost you an extra $3, for a total of $8.)
- Tips are NOT allowed.
- There is NO extra charge for long and/or thick hair.
- Specific Stylists may not be requested.
- Students perform the haircuts, however instructors walk the floor, check behind them and are available to answer questions.
- Haircuts are of equal quality to those you may get at another chain (Great Clips, Hair Cuttery, Sports Clips...)
- Approximately 12 chairs are available. (All four of my children were able to have their hair cut at the same time.)
- Based on my own experience, hair cuts take nearly twice as long you would normally expect. Students are working hard to to their best and will stop to ask questions and get assistance from their instructors. (Considering the lack of wait time for my family's haircuts to begin, this added time did not add much to our total trip.)
Bottom line is: if you're looking for an inexpensive haircut and have a little extra time to spend, find an Empire Beauty School HERE. (Although the number listed is toll free, it will link you to your local store.) As with any haircut, if you don't like the results, at least it will grow out!
